Dr. Jean Maroun, M.D., F.R.C.P. (C), F.R.C.P. (London)
Dr. Maroun graduated from St. Joseph’s University, Beirut, Lebanon. He completed his training in Internal Medicine in England where he obtained the M.R.C.P. (UK) in 1973. He specialized in Medical Oncology at the University of Ottawa and in the Department of Developmental Therapeutics at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Centre, Houston, Texas, USA.
Dr. Maroun is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Ottawa and was nominated Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London, England in 1997. Until June 2002 Dr. Maroun was chair of Medical Oncology at the University of Ottawa and Head of Medical Oncology at the Ottawa Regional Cancer Centre and Ottawa Hospital.
Dr. Maroun was chair of the Ontario Provincial Gastro-Intestinal Practice Guidelines Committee. He is a past President of the Canadian Oncology Societies and the Canadian Association of Medical Oncologists. Dr. Maroun has long experience in the management of GI malignancies and has been involved in clinical research into new drugs development and new combinations in the treatment of colorectal cancer. His clinical and basic research focus is on Thymidylate Synthase Inhibitors and other predictors for targeted therapy. Dr. Maroun has published extensively in peer reviewed journals and is involved provincially and nationally in numerous academic and research committees.
Dr Maroun a obtenu son diplôme de Médecine à L’Université St. Joseph, Beyrouth Liban. Il a complété son stage en Médecine Interne en Angleterre ou il a obtenu le diplôme M.R.C.P. (UK) en 1973. Il s’est spécialisé en Oncologie Médicale à l’Université d’Ottawa et au Département de Developmental Therapeutics au MD Anderson Hôpital, Houston, Texas, USA.
Dr Maroun a été chef d’Oncologie Médicale à l’Université d’Ottawa et au Centre Régional de Cancer. Il est professeur de Médecine et a été nommé Fellow du Collège Royal des Médecins à Londres, Angleterre en 1997.
Dr Maroun errait chef du Comité Provincial de Guides de Pratiques Cliniques des Tumeurs gastro-intestinales. Il est ex Président des Sociétés d’Oncologie du Canada et de l’Association des Oncologues Médicaux du Canada. Dr Maroun a une longue expérience dans le traitement des tumeurs gastro-intestinales et a été impliqué dans les recherches cliniques de nouveaux médicaments et de nouvelles combinaisons du traitement des tumeurs colorectales. L'attention centrale de ses recherches cliniques et recherches de base a été sur les Inhibiteurs de la Thymidylate de Synthèse. Dr Maroun a publié extensivement dans les journaux médicaux et est implique au niveau Provincial et National dans plusieurs comités scientifiques et académiques.
