Larry Kvols, MD has spent more than 30 years studying the evaluation and treatment of neuroendocrine tumors with a focus on carcinoid tumors, malignant carcinoid syndrome, and islet cell carcinomas. His research has been published in more than 200 peer reviewed medical journals including New England Journal of Medicine, Journal of Clinical Oncology, Cancer, Cancer Research, American Journal of Medicine and Annals of Internal Medicine.
Dr. Kvols has been invited to lecture on his research throughout the United States and internationally in more than 35 countries. He has presented his research at numerous key conferences, including American Society of Clinical Oncology, European Society of Medical Oncology, American Cancer Society, Digestive Disease Week, European Neuroendocrine Tumor Network Educational Meeting, Board Review Courses at Harvard Medical School and the Society of Nuclear Medicine Annual Meeting. In addition, he has chaired symposiums for the European Neuroendocrine Association, European Association of Nuclear Medicine, the Society of Nuclear Medicine and the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
He received his medical degree with high honors from Baylor College of Medicine. He was an intern and resident and completed one year of fellowship in hematology and oncology at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He concluded his oncology and hematology training at the National Cancer Institute's Baltimore Cancer Research Center before joining the staff at the Mayo Clinic. While at the Mayo Clinic, he became Professor of Oncology at the Mayo Medical School. He was also Director and CEO of the Cancer Research and Treatment Center at the University of New Mexico prior to joining the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute.
