Dr Mazen HassanainDr. Mazen Hassanain graduated from King Saud University’s medical program in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in 2000 with a 2nd degree honor. He then joined the academic staff of the Department of General Surgery at King Saud University. Dr. Hassanain then went on to compete 5 years of training in General Surgery at McGill University.

Following his surgical training, he went on to pursue a Master’s of Science in Experimental Surgery at McGill University. In addition, he completed two years of Fellowship training in Solid Organ Transplant and Hepato-pancreato-biliary surgery at the McGill University Health Center. His Master’s research project has been advanced to be a PhD thesis.

Dr. Hassanain is responsible for the McGill Hepato-pancreato-biliary journal clubs. He is involved in outcomes related research and clinical trials in the realm of both transplant and HPB.

His research interests include liver function and its relation to the liver glycogen content in both the surgical and the transplant areas. He is also interested in the anti-inflammatory effect of the high dose insulin therapy, when given to patients with heightened stress response.
