Dr Wouter W de Herder (1960) is associate professor of internal medicine - clinical endocrinology at the Erasmus MC in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. In this university hospital he is active as the head of education in endocrinology and head of the outpatient clinic of endocrinology. He is also chairman of a multidisciplinary group for endocrine oncology in the Erasmus MC (tumorwerkgroep endocriene tumoren).
His major research interests are neuroendocrine and adrenal tumors/Cushing’s syndrome. Dr de Herder received his MD in 1985 and his PhD in 1990 from the Erasmus University in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. He is a member of several international and Dutch national societies, such as board member of the Dutch society for Endocrinology (NVE), member of the Endocrine Society (USA), Society for Endocrinology (UK), Pituitary Society (USA), European Society of Endocrinology (ESE), and European Neuroendocrine Association (ENEA). He serves as vice-chairman of ENETS (European Neuroendocrine Tumour Society) as well as advisor of NANETS (North American Neuroendocrine Tumor Society). He serves as member of the educational committee of the European Society of Endocrinology (ESE).
Dr de Herder has (co-)published more than 200 peer reviewed papers and book chapters and is a reviewer for many international journals. He is a member of the editorial boards of Clinical Endocrinology, Neuroendocrinology and Endocrine-related Cancer. He has given more than 80 invited presentations at Dutch national and international meetings.
