World Net Cancer Awareness Day at Novartis Oncology in Dorval, Quebec
On November 10, World Net Cancer Day, the employees at Novartis Oncology in Dorval Quebec held a silent auction in our honour. The event was attended by two of our directors, Pierrette Breton and Vernon Holt, who were greeted warmly in the cafeteria where the event was held. It was truly a fun day with the dress code being black and white as the event was titled All Zebra. There were even a couple of tuxedos and the auction table was festooned with zebra balloons together with all of the offerings being in a zebra motif.
A total of over $4,000 was raised and many more people are now aware of the face of CNETS Canada having had a chance to talk with our folks and being given pins and flyers.

Vernon Holt's Cornwall Tour - September 24, 2011
From Vernon:
OSaturday, September 24th, Vernon took part in this year’s CNETS cross-Canada fundraising effort for research. He couldn't walk too far due to poor circulation and Angina. SO, he spent the day on the city buses, reading a book and seeing the sights where he lives in Cornwall. Make no mistake, for me, this will be no walk in the park ( drum riff ).
My target is $ 2,000. I’ve sent out a blanket email to all the friends and acquaintances in my address book, asking for a donation, and have also attached a copy of our 2010 Annual Report hoping that they will take the time to review who we are, what our Mission is, and some of our accomplishments."
You may donate directly to CNETS or through Canada Helps.
Joanne's Kayak for Carcinoid/Neuroendocrine Cancer Research
Hi everyone, I have a slow growing rare cancer called Carcinoid/NeuroEndocrine Cancer. CNETS Canada desperately needs research money for this rare cancer.
I have therefore decided to help raise research funds once again, (I organized a walk 2 years ago).
I decided to kayak this year, which I was not able to do in the past, due to shoulder arthritis.
You can donate to my Kayak voyage through Canada Helps.
John Ferguson (Joanne's husband) has also set up a Canada Helps page that you can donate to.
Thank you for your support!
Alberta Fundraising Walks for NET Cancer
My dear friends and family, as you know Jacquie was recently diagnosed with rare NeuroEndocrine Cancer.
To honour her and to raise awareness and funds, the boys and I participated in a nationwide fundraising walk on September 24, 2011. We walked from Shannon Terrace on the far west end of Fish Creek Park (in Calgary) to Mallard Point on the northeast end....approximately 16 kilometres.
Greg Lapp's "Walk for Jacquie"

My beautiful dear friend, Jacquie Lapp, was recently diagnosed with inoperable NeuroEndocrine Cancer. Wanting desperately to do something in honour of her battle, I chose to participate in a nationwide fundraising walk on Sept. 24 or 25, 2011 to raise funds and awareness for this relatively rare cancer.
Proceeds from this event are directed towards: Canada's "NeuroEndocrine Tumours Cancer Research Initiatives" for 2012.

Carcinoid NeuroEndocrine Tumour Society Canada (CNETS) Walkathon
My husband, Malcolm Horne, has neuroendocrine cancer, and had surgery in Sep/10 to remove 60% of his liver, plus several other pieces of his digestive tract. He is stable now, but it shocked us to learn how few options there are for the disease.
On Sep 25/11, our family joined the walk to raise money for NET Cancer research. Please help! You can donate via our giving page on Canada Helps.
I set our goal as $2,000. but am thrilled that our total now stands well above that at $3308.00
Thank you!
Heather.

Bailey's Ride to Conquer NeuroEndocrine Cancer
Bailey was busy fundraising for her "Ride for a Cure" in and has raised an incredible $6,308, surpassing her goal of $5.250.
She writes:
"Hello, friends. On June 11 and 12, 2011, I took an "epic journey" (the Ride to Conquer Cancer's words). That may sound a bit over the top, but cycling 221 km from Toronto to Niagara Falls over two days really is a voyage. The trip was an excuse to raise money for both the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation and CNETS Canada.
The weather forecast did not look good for Saturday starting around a week prior to the Ride, but I kept announcing to anyone who would listen, "it's not going to rain!" After the Weather Network forecasted on Friday a "100% chance" of rain on Saturday, including thunderstorms in Hamilton, I conceded that we surely would be riding through various degrees of precipitation all day. I went out Friday to Mountain Co-op to purchase rain booties to go over the shoes for our team of four (plus my husband, who captained a team from work), not to mention several other items of protective gear so that we wouldn't be soaked to the bone. I had been planning on cycling with just a small bag on my bike, but this meant upgrading to a much larger bag, which I had not trained with at all. Dragging around the extra weight really made a difference, and my legs were much more tired than usual. "
Special 100 for $100 Carcinoid NET Research Campaign.
Please help us reach our 2011 Research Fundraising goal. CNETS Canada needs $10,000.00 more to reach our goal of $60,000.00 for Carcinoid Neuroendocrine Cancer Research in 2011. Our $60,000.00 will be matched by an additional $60,000,00 from the Cancer Research Society for a total of $120,000.00. To learn more about the CNETS Canada, CRS collaboration on Carcinoid Neuroendocrine Cancer Research, please click here.
Please consider donating $100.00 to our special appeal. Please click here to see our appeal letter. Donations to the 100 for $100 campaign can be made online from this site or by cheque made out to CNETS Canada and mailed to:

Research does not always bring immediate rewards but it is cumulative and it has been demonstrated over and over with different cancers that the more research there is into a cancer the better the outlook for the entire community.

Natalie Mezey's Run in memory of her Mother
On Sunday May 29th 2011, Natalie ran the National Capital Half Marathon in loving memory of her Mother and in honour of the many brave men and women who are battling Carcinoid and NeuroEndocrine Cancers.
90% of Neuroendocrine cancers go undetected or are misdiagnosed! Help me change this by raising awareness. Your donations provided much needed funding for research and support to those who live with it everyday!
Fundraising 2010
We have been working on our usual fundraising initiatives from the beginning of 2010, but at the start of the warm weather, our supporters came up with great ideas for their own fundraising initiatives for Research. Bailey kicked off the summer of 2010 with her Kayakathon for NET Cancer Research (in support of CNETS Canada) which took place from July 23 to July 25. Her original goal was $5000 and has collected an incredible $11,070.! Congratulations Bailey!

Steps to organizing a Fundraising Walk for CNETS Canada*
If you are thinking of doing a fundraiser for CNETS Canada we thank you very much indeed! Your fundraiser will make a difference for the NET patient community of Canada. However it can be quite a challenge remembering all the components involved.
Nebraska Penny, the daughter of a patient, has created a useful template that includes all the levels of activity involved in the planning of the walk. You may choose to follow all steps suggested here or just follow some of them. It is important, above all else, to be aware of your own or your group's comfort level.
Steps to Organizing a Walk is not so much a blueprint as a guideline. Please always feel free at any stage of your fundraising endeavour to be in touch with Maureen Coleman, Chair of Fundraising, at info@cnetscanada.org. She will help you work through some of the logistics involved.
* or a Bikeathon, Kayakthon, Triathlon, Golfathon. You get the picture!

The Kormos-Coleman and friends' walk took place on September 25 in Toronto and raised $12,300.00 dollars. The party room at Maureen Coleman's condo remained open throughout the walk for walkers and non walkers alike.
