James F. Pingpank, Jr., M.D. is the Acting Head, Surgical Metabolism Section at the National Cancer Institute, part of the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. Dr. Pingpank's medical career began at the George Washington University, where he attended medical school and includes a Residency at the University of Connecticut, a period of research at the University of Pennsylvania and a Fellowship at the Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dr. Pingpank is the Principal Investigator of a Phase III trial testing Percutaneous Hepatic Perfusion for the treatment of metastatic melanoma to the liver. He is also Principal Investigator of a Phase II trial testing the same procedure against neuroendocrine and adenocarcinomas metastatic to the liver as well as primary liver cancer.
In addition to his clinical duties, Dr. Pingpank has published many peer-reviewed articles and is Chair of the Gastrointestinal Malignancies Faculty at the National Cancer Institute; sits on the NIH Surgical Administrative Committee.
Dr. Pingpank is a member of a number of medical organizations, including the Society of Surgical Oncology, the American College of Surgeons, the Association for Academic Surgery and the American Association for Cancer Research.
