Dr. Muriel Buxton-ThomasDr. Buxton-Thomas trained as a physician at St Thomas’ Hospital and did her specialist Nuclear Medicine training at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge. Her first interest was in imaging Thromboembolic disease which combined radionuclide venography and V/Q Scanning for Pulmonary Emboli. She developed aerosol ventilation imaging while at Cambridge. Since becoming a Consultant Physician in Nuclear Medicine in 1984, she has undertaken all aspects of Nuclear Medicine including Radionuclide Therapies.

On Transferring to Kings College Hospital she became interested in Neuroendocrine Tumours (NETs) following publication of the results of imaging Neuroendocrine liver tumours with the new agent Octreotide (QJM 1994). Since then she has worked closely with John Ramage in establishing a Carcinoid Clinic for NET patients. Taking part in various trials: High dose 111Indium Octreotide; 90Y Octreother and more recently 177Lu Octreotate.

Her other interests include; hepatobiliary imaging in children and patients with liver transplants and dopamine transporter and cardiomyopathy (in Parkinson’s disease).
